Our Values

Our goal is to build a different type of company that’s not only focused on the bottom line, but also the happiness of our readers and our team. We also prioritize personal growth highly.

Here are the values that guide our decisions and actions every day. (click them to expand)

1. Freedom
  • We choose to be where we are the happiest and most productive
  • We love travelling and learning new things (this is why we’re doing company retreats in the near future)
  • We aim to be fully engaged in our work and activities, and fully disconnected when we’re not working
2. Improve Consistently
  • We strive to exemplify a growth mindset and believe that any skill or talent can be learned through deliberate practice.
  • We are biased towards action and have a higher expectation of ourselves and our websites than others have of us.
  • We desire to be better tomorrow than today, knowing that improvement can be found in small changes.
3. Cultivate Positivity
  • We approach things in a positive way while realizing all emotions are valid.
  • We only give constructive criticism to each other.
  • We assume the best of others because we may lack full context.
  • We believe that honest, constructive criticism is an opportunity to grow.
4. Fast To Implementation
  • We act fast in a rapidly-changing industry in order to thrive & grow as a company.
  • We strive to never delay an important task for tomorrow if it can be done today.

5. Act For The Long-Term
  • We recognize that a lot of value come from long-term efforts. Not just short-term.
  • We strive to create useful and inspiring content that will perform well over the long-term. Not just until the next Google algorithm update catches up.

“We believe that it’s really important to come up with core values that you can commit to. And by commit, we mean that you’re willing to hire and fire based on them. If you’re willing to do that, then you’re well on your way to building a company culture that is in line with the brand you want to build.”

(Some of these values are inspired by Buffer.com, which is a company that has great success running a big remote team)
